In order for heliostats to be able to follow the position of the sun at all times, special algorithms are required that control the mirror motor with pinpoint accuracy.

Heliostats are self-aligning mirrors for precise guidance of sunlight. Targeted sunlight can either be used to generate energy or to illuminate windowless zones, to brighten shaded objects or as a source of natural light.

Special algorithms determine the engine speed

Algorithms are used for high-precision angle calculation of the heliostat mirror relative to the sun and the target point. The continuous tracking of the mirror is achieved by dynamic calculation of the motor speed and the corresponding reduction ratio. Thus no step movements are visible. The synchronization of the time is done by a GPS signal or via an internet connection to a server with Network Time Protocol (NTP).
The control system consists of compact, industrial and robust system components. These are either placed directly at the heliostat in the control box or in a nearby technical room. The control system is operated via a laptop or tablet computer. The connection of the heliostat control to a local network allows access via W-LAN. There is also the possibility for remote access.

System made of robust and weatherproof materials

The plant is of very robust construction. Only highly tempered materials and wear-resistant drive components are used, which in particular withstand the changing climatic conditions. The drive components with the gearboxes are designed to withstand wind speeds of up to 180 km/h.

Sunatube consists of high quality components that offer optimal light output. Even when the sun is low enough light reaches the inside of the building.

A crystal-clear, shock-resistant dome made of acrylic glass (PMMA) serves to capture daylight. An optical mirror tube, made of the world’s most reflective material, guides the light into the interior of the building. A unique diffusing lens (diffuser) is used for the balanced illumination of the rooms. Special LEDs for illumination at night are available as an option.

The light tube that guides the light into the interior of the building is coated on the inside with MiroSilver. This special material enables a particularly high light yield. With an overall efficiency of 98%, there is practically no loss of daylight. Even weak light enters the interior with maximum efficiency.
A special prismatic diffusion lens at the end of the mirrored tube distributes the light pleasantly in the room and prevents annoying glare effects.

Resource-saving LED lighting for the night

To make sure you don’t have to do without light at night, Sunatube can be optionally equipped with an LED set. Depending on the customer’s requirements, Lumena supplies warm white or cold white LEDs, which, true to the company philosophy, follow the principle of resource-saving lighting.
